Dental implants can require some time to heal before they become integrated to your jawbone. Teeth can be made on the implants on the same day that the implant is placed, or a few months later. It is quite variable. Having a bone graft may or may not prolong that time.
This video taken at my office in Burbank, California should provide clarity as to when the final teeth can be made.
Enjoy!

Hi Dr. Ramsey
I have braces and after my teeth came into space a gap was created on my upper left side in the middle.
This gap has been kept open for a half a year and now they have suggested to put in an implant, since it would be very difficult to move my two last teeth forward. Do you think this is a good idea, should I wait longer before I do this? I still have my braces on, and asked them to remove them after the implant is put in, instead of now. Is the gap too fresh for an implant? Do you think the bone is ready in 6 months or should wait longer before the procedure?
Looking forward to your response.
Thank you.

Hi Christina,
You have the exact situation as a patient that I just treated a few days ago.
There is no reason to delay placing the implant. When teeth move through a space by way of braces, bone grows in the area.
If you don't replace it soon, the bone will shrink, and it will become more complicated and costly.
You can take off the braces and just use the retainer while the implant heals.
How old are you? That may make a difference.
